About this event
Ruth Lowe is dedicated to preserving and collecting Mary Quant’s work. Her collection has been lent out to various fashion museums around the world, including the V&A Mary Quant exhibition in 2019. Here we’ll get to see and hear about Mary Quant in a more personal and glass free setting!
The pieces in Ruth Lowe’s collection offer a glimpse into the world of Mary Quant and the Swinging Sixties, and allows for a unique perspective on her work and the cultural context in which it was created. She will be bringing a select amount of garments and memorabilia for us to view and feel closely.
Mary Quant’s contributions to fashion and design have had a lasting impact on the industry and continue to influence designers today. Her bold and playful approach to design, as well as her use of unconventional materials and themes, continue to inspire and captivate audiences.
On the day we’ll also touch on Carnaby Street and Kings Road. Two iconic London streets in the 1960s that became synonymous with the youth and fashion culture of the Swinging Sixties. Many influential designers and fashion boutiques were located in these areas, and their work helped define the look and style of the era.
